PE and Sport Updates

4.11.17 – Talented dancers and further football success!

Another busy couple of weeks for PE and sport at Balby Central. Year 4/5/6 children were fortunate enough to take part in a ballet workshop last Monday with the Northern Ballet school. All the children tried their best and enjoyed the chance to take part in an activity which was new to many. Many thanks to Mrs Hodgson  for organising the visit and a huge congratulations to those children who have been invited along to additional sessions! We clearly have some very enthusiastic and talented dancers!

Last Wednesday a group of Y3/4/5 pupils travelled to Badsworth  primary school for their first friendly football fixture of the year. Our Y3/4 team played brilliantly to win 8-2, whilst the Y4/5 team won what was a very tight and tense game, 2-1. All players were exceptional, playing well together as a team, with some moments of brilliance to score a number of goals.

Attention now turns to intra-school sports competitions as we get closer to the finals! (Y3- Football,Y4 – Basketball, Y5/6 – Badminton)

13.11.17 – Another great performance and lots more to look forward too!

Last week our Y5/6 girls put in a resilient performance in the Doncaster Finals. Our A team came 5th overall with Grace top scoring with 4 goals altogether! The girls narrowly missed out on the semi finals but remained unbeaten to finish fifth, with the highlight beating Warmsworth with two great team goals in the group stages! Our B team were fantastic throughout, showing great determination to improve and work together as a team. Well done to all involved and many thanks go to Miss Wales who has worked hard on a Wednesday afterschool to prepare the girls for competitive football.

A new half term sees more great opportunities for our children to be involved in sport! (see below) There are two new KS1 lunchtime clubs open to all children on Monday and Tuesday whilst there is lots of intra school sports competitions available to years 3-6. Please also keep your eye out on the outdoor notice boards for more fixtures coming up and encourage your children to get involved in as many clubs/matches as they can.

Many thanks,

Mr Wilson

23.10.2017 – Great start to the boys football season!

Friday night saw our Y5/6 Football First Team play their first friendly fixture against St.Francis. The boys won 10 – 1 with every individual contributing to a very convincing display. The boys played well as a team, with some very unselfish play leading to a number of impressive goals. Man of the Match went to Aran for a solid performance in defence. Thanks goes to St.Francis for travelling and displaying a gritty performance themselves. This friendly fixture is great preparation for next weeks Doncaster Y5/6 football tournament in which we are entering two teams.

Elsewhere in school, children can look forward to the final round of fixtures in our intra-school Y4/5 football tournament and every lunchtime this week, the year 3 basketball teams will have the chance to compete on the court. A final well done to all the children who took part in the 10 Active Travel challenge. At least 95 children have travelled in an active way to school for all 10 days! Look out for the prizes coming your way!

16.10.17 – Active Travel and more competitive sport!

The last two weeks has seen Balby Central children take part in the KS2 Cross Country finals, a Y5/6 Hockey tournament and a Y3/4 Football tournament. There were some fantastic team performances in all events, with our year ¾ girls football team reaching the final and coming second out of 10 other Doncaster schools. Two of our year 6 boys runners were the stand out performaers in the cross country event, coming 8th and 16th! Fantastic performances all round, well done to all involved! See a roundup of the fixtures and results below.

All children in school are currently taking part in a 10 day active travel challenge, recording how children travel to and from school. This is to promote physical activity on their journey to and from school. The challenge lasts five more days and our class charts show that so many children already travel actively to school! Keep it up to help our school win prizes for PE and sport!

3.10.2017 – Another successful week!

Last week saw our Y5/6 girls football team compete in their first tournament of the year. In an event hosted by the FA and Doncaster Football club, the girls took part in a number of different football activities and got the chance to meet some of the Doncaster Rovers Belles players. Clearly feeling inspired, the girls then went on to win all of their matches in the tournament, scoring a total of 13 goals and only conceding 1! Well done to all involved. Your behavior was exemplary and the teamwork on show was fantastic!

Elsewhere, on the playground, our Y4/5 football league is picking up momentum with all teams playing some very good football! (see results below). Best of luck this Thursday to those representing the school at the Doncaster Cross Country finals!

25.09.2017 – What a start to the term!

It has been a busy start to the Autumn term here at Balby Central! As well as PE and dance lessons for all year groups, lots of children have been engaging in the intra-school tournaments. Team Snedkar stand top of the Y4/5 football league being played at break times, whilst 45 children took part in the KS2 cross-country races in preparation for the up and coming inter-school cross country! Year 3 will soon take part in a dinner time basketball tournament and this week sees the start of the year 6 Table Tennis competition on our brand new table!

A group of year 6 children represented the school brilliantly on Monday 18th at Hill House school in the first sport event between the Rose Learning Trust schools. Two mixed teams competed in a tag rugby tournament and learnt new hockey skills alongside future England stars. With most pupils making their tag rugby debut, it was a great achievement to win 6 out of 8 games.
