In Year One we will be following the Read, Write, Inc scheme which teaches phonics, reading and writing based around a different story every week. This help children see the links between what they read and what they write. In maths we will be working on addition and subtraction using a range of resources in practical situations and also using counting on and back on a number line. We will develop mental maths skills around counting in 2’s, learning number bonds to 10, multiples of 5 and doubling. Our topic of Great and Ghastly Events develops children’s historical skills with a focus on The Great Fire of London. We will be looking at different sources of information to find out what happened, why and how London changed. DT and art work will look at fire colours with children creating scenes from the event.
